the look of the thing
I often hear people refer to the PowerPoint "look". People tell me that PowerPoint presentations can never look really professional.
People say lots of things that aren't correct.
While it's rarely my weapon of choice, PowerPoint comes in for a lot of criticism that it truly doesn't deserve. There's no such thing as a PowerPoint "look"; your presentation can look just as good as your design creativity can produce. We know, we've produced hundreds.
If circumstances dictate that you have to use PowerPoint, that doesn't mean you have to lower your sights. Not when we can build you one that hits the bullseye.
don't blame the tools
If you asked me to extract one of your teeth (not that I'm suggesting you should), you wouldn't blame the ensuing pain and disfigurement on the forceps. I think we'd both question my dental skills.
Most people aren't professional presenters, and sadly that means that their presentations don't look professional. Are you happy with that?
Let's get rid of some of this DIY attitude that's infected PowerPoint users and produce something that looks good. Whether you just take our guidance to build your own, or get us to build it for you, you'll feel proud of what you're presenting.
cleaning up
Part of the problem is that few people actually use PowerPoint correctly. By that I mean creating master slide layouts so that you have a slide design for every eventuality;
setting the default font face and sizes; defining a colour scheme, transitions and so on.
Just building the slide masters properly and then using them correctly could make a huge difference to the look of your presentations - and save a lot of your time when you build them.
We can take your PowerPoint presentations and clean them up so that it all works properly. It's an easy, low-cost way of rationalising your presentations, to get them more consistent and easier to use.
tricks of the trade
When you spend as much time pointing to a presentation screen as I do, you pick up lots of tweaks, angles and downright cheats to help you get through it without bumping into the scenery. In the example above, Daniel shows you one of them that you can try for yourself.
It beats rehearsing.
careful who you copy
Presentations have become the familar nightmare we all dread largely because everyone copies everyone else's presentations.
Weird.
Most of us are agreed that other people's presentations would even cure Macbeth's insomnia. Then we make pretty much the same mistakes in our own. It takes nerve to throw all this away and take a new approach - until you try it and find how well it works. There are few examples on the presentation mistakes page
Several of my clients have needed to demonstrate their software systems. My Configurative system allows us to create a full simulation of almost any system. It uses realistic, dummy data to bring the functionality to the presentation without the complexity of connecting ot a live system.
If you've ever been frustrated by PowerPoint's inability to deliver that great presentation idea, you'll understand what led me to develop Configurative. It's the name I gave to the presentation system I've built over the years, and I have to confess to a significant degree of pride in what it can do. Come and see what I mean...
